Joel was born in Harrisburg, IL, a farming and coal mining town of 9,000 in the southern portion of the state. He credits this blue-collar upbringing with his motivation to attend law school and desire to help those who have been treated unfairly. He has had a diverse work background from Smith Barney in New York City, to prior work in a personal injury firm, serving as in-house counsel for a Fortune 500 Company and finally with Coker, Schickel, Sorenson, Posgay, Camerlengo & Iracki.
Joel received his undergraduate degree in Finance from Auburn University before obtaining his J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law in 2007. While in law school he was appointed and served for two years as the SBA Elections Supervisor which oversaw all SBA Elections on campus. He also is responsible for authoring Florida Coastal’s first ever elections code which governed the manner in which elections were run.
Away from work Joel spends his free time with his daughter Elle, running, playing golf, and traveling.
