Matthew Posgay is a partner with our trial law firm, Coker,
Schickel, Sorenson & Posgay. He is board certified by The Florida Bar in Civil
Trial Law and in
Civil Trial Advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocates.
His areas of focus include complex, serious personal injury and wrongful death
cases. He has tried over sixty cases to verdict.
Mr. Posgay received his law degree in 1994 from the University of Florida and is
admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, in addition to the Middle
District and Northern District of Florida’s Federal Courts. Before joining our
firm, he was a shareholder in a statewide insurance defense firm and the
managing partner of their Jacksonville office, but he knew his talents would be
better used making a difference in the lives of those who suffered personal
injury or were dealing with difficult circumstances surrounding the wrongful
death of a loved one.
Mr. Posgay
has a history of involvement in professional, fraternal and civic
organizations, dating back to his time at the University of Florida. He served
as an executive officer of his fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, in addition to
serving as its Philanthropy Chairperson. He also served in various leadership
positions while being a member of Florida Blue Key.
Active in several professional organizations, Mr. Posgay is a member of the
Board of Directors of the Florida Justice Association (FJA). He was recently
honored by the FJA with the “Shoe Leather Award” for his dedicated and effective
contributions to their 2010 legislative session. In 2010, Mr. Posgay was
selected to the Florida Super Lawyer List, exclusive to 5% of lawyers in
Florida. Currently, Mr. Posgay is the
Treasurer of the
Jacksonville Justice Association. He is an Associate of the
American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), as well as a member of the American
Association for Justice and the American Bar Association. Mr. Posgay served
as Chairman of the HabiJax Committee for the Jacksonville Bar Association in
2007. He is a frequent speaker in The Florida Bar’s Justice Teaching Program and
serves as Secretary for the University of Florida’s Law School Alumni Council.
Mr. Posgay has also found time to serve as a Sunday School Teacher.
