Teamwork Successfully Proves Brain Injury

Teamwork Successfully Proves Brain Injury

Savannah Benton loved her job at a chiropractor’s office.  Her dream was to move up from an administrator position to the chiropractor field of medicine.  She was a big believer in the healing potential of chiropractic treatment, she’d had several treatments herself in the past.

But those hopes came crashing down after she was involved in a T-bone collision in Clay County, Florida.  Savannah suffered a traumatic brain injury, along with neck and back pain.  Despite her many injuries she was able to finally return to her job as an office administrator, but it was evident her traumatic brain injury was affecting her cognitive abilities and her job performance.

Finding A New Normal

Savannah enrolled in chiropractic school and attempted to return to school after the crash, but she immediately noticed a difference in her academic performance due to her brain injury.  Her hopes and dreams of continued employment in the chiropractic field were now at risk due to her brain injury.  Sadly, one of her doctors told her she would now have to find a new normal.

Life Altering Consequences

Savannah’s permanent mild traumatic brain injury by no means equated to a mild effect on her daily life.  Even “mild” traumatic brain injuries can have life altering consequences.   “Savannah received some follow-up care for her brain injury following the crash,” said Coker Law attorney Fraz Ahmed.  “Unfortunately, there is no specific treatment or cure for a brain injury like hers.”  The head and brain radiology were also negative as CT’s and MRI’s are generally not sensitive enough to detect mild traumatic brain injury.  So, the Coker Law trial team had to show the life altering impact a permanent mild traumatic brain injury can have on a person.

Team Work Results in Justice

The at-fault driver’s insurance company denied Savannah Benton’s claim that she was permanently injured.  The Coker Law team and co-counsel attorney Barry Ansbacher were able to successfully pull their resources together to overcome many of the challenges made by the defense team that Savannah’s injuries, not even her brain injury, were impacting her day-to-day activities or would affect her future.

Coker Law attorneys and the legal team of Barry Ansbacher focused on the science in diagnosing traumatic brain injuries and were able to effectively anticipate how the defense and their experts would deny the impact of Savannah’s injury.   The positive result for Savannah was the result of a combined team effort. “Every person on the trial team had a specific role,” insists Coker Law Founding Partner, Howard Coker.  “The result was not just because everyone filled their role, but because everyone performed their roles extremely successfully and as one cohesive unit.  The end result was justice for Savannah.”
