A Driver Under The Influence Hit Me, What Do I Do?

Posted on Tuesday, December 31st, 2019

New Year’s Eve is a time of fun and celebration for everyone! But it is also one of the worst times to get behind the wheel. Tragically one in three traffic fatalities happen because of a drunk driver.  At Coker Law, these are among our most heartbreaking cases, good people who are injured or killed by the bad decisions of others.

These crashes can be life altering events and we understand that this is a terrible way to bring in a new year.  So it’s important that if you or someone you love is hit by a drunk driver or a driver on drugs that you work with an experienced legal team to ensure that you receive justice in your case and all of the benefits you are entitled to.

Benefits and Compensation May Include:

  • Compensation due to disability from the incident
  • Compensation for wage loss
  • Compensation for loss of support if you are dependent on the victim involved in the incident
  • Funeral or burial expenses
  • Expenses due to medical treatment
  • Mental health or counseling expenses

If you or a loved one were injured this New Year’s, you may also receive additional benefits through the Florida’s Bureau of Victim Compensation:

Benefits and Compensation May Include:

  • The crime must be reported within 72 hours of the incident
  • The victim must suffer from physical injury (or even death) due to the incident
  • The victim must not have contributed to the crime at hand
  • The victim has to fully cooperate with law enforcement throughout the case
  • During the time of the incident, the victim can’t be engaged in any type of illegal activity
  • The victim can’t be a convicted felon

Be safe and proactive this New Year’s! From everyone at Coker Law, may 2019 bring many blessings for you, your friends and family.  If you or a loved one are involved in a drunk driving incident, speak with one of our experienced attorneys about your case or click here to schedule a free consultation.
