Partner Charles Sorenson has received two prestigious awards from hispeers. Charles was recently awarded the “Spartans at Thermopylae” Award by the North Florida Trial Lawyers Association.
The historical significance of the award stems from the Battle of Thermopylae, when a group
of Greek cities fought the Persian Empire. The Greeks were vastly outnumbered, but they
were able to hold off the Persians for three days. King Leonidas of Sparta led the Greeks.
This part of the battle has become a symbol of courage against tremendous odds.
He received the award for his leadership and commitment to justice and his service to the
profession. Charles explains that the award states that it is given to those who have
“always stood ready to defend justice often against overwhelming odds and at great personal
cost.” The award was given at the fall meeting of the North Florida Trial Lawyers
Charles also received the “Civility Award” from The American Board of Trial Advocates
(ABOTA) Jacksonville Chapter this fall. ABOTA was founded to protect the right to
trial by jury, and works to elevate the standards of integrity, honor, and courtesy in the
legal profession.
Charles explains that the Jacksonville ABOTA chapter is one of the most recognized chapters in
the nation, even having been named chapter of the year several times.
