Safeguard Your New Year’s Eve Celebration – Know Your Hosting Responsibilities

During the New Year season, there is no shortage of celebrations to ring in the New Year, but those celebrations can have dangerous consequences if they aren’t monitored properly or if a guest drinks and decides they can drive home.  Whether you are hosting or attending there are some things to consider to ensure that you or your guests have a great time, and everyone gets home safely.

Thinking about having a New Year’s Eve bash? Here’s some tips to make sure you host a fun, safe party for all of your guests:

Do your research on the laws your state has for party hosts

“One drink won’t hurt, right?” Wrong. In Florida, providing alcohol to someone underage means that you are held accountable for any accident or injury involving that minor at your house or after they leave. You may think it’s safer for them to drink at home, but in reality, it’s safer to skip the alcohol altogether!

Limit the number of party guests you have

Most people think bigger is better. But remember: quality over quantity! By reducing the number of guests you invite, you will be able to keep better track of what’s happening in your home and the intoxication level of each party-goer.

Food, Food, Food!

Make sure to stock up on snacks and treats for your guests to eat at the party. This will help them to absorb the alcohol they may consume and keep them energized for a night of fun!

Have non-alcoholic beverages on standby

Serve soda or make some fun mocktails for your guests that may be underage, pregnant or not too fond of alcohol.  Have lots of water available so guests will be able to rehydrate and pace themselves throughout the night!

Promote responsible drinking

Keep an eye on how much your guests are drinking. This will help you be able to gauge if you need to cut someone off or call them a ride home. Stop serving alcohol an hour before the party ends… the NFL does it, you can too!
